Role Tiers

Apart from the role levels shown at Career Patharchived, we further indicate where individuals might be on their journey using one of the seven sub-level indicators. These are defined to provide granularity and briefly tell the effort needed for the individual to move to the next role level.

During hiring, these are also used to guide the offer we make. As part of appraisals, they’re used to help us justify the salary proposed.

Role Tiers Explained

These are the seven recognizable tiers with a brief description of their meaning.

Starting

The individual qualifies for the role level on at least one of the aspects. There is assurance that the individual would immediately pick up more responsibilities required of the role. These individuals are typically placed at the beginning of the salary range for that role.

Early

The individual qualifies for the role level on a few aspects and can meet the most fundamental role requirements in a significant amount of time.

Early+

Same as “Early,” but the individual can demonstrate behaviors typical of the role level more consistently.

Mid

The individual qualifies for the role level on many aspects and can meet the advanced requirements of the role most of the time. These individuals are typically placed at the mid-point of the salary range for that role. Further, the individual also occasionally demonstrates some of the following role-level behaviors.

Exceptional cases through an IDP

Mid+

Same as “Mid,” but the individual can demonstrate behaviors typical of the role level more consistently.

Through an IDP

15%

Late

The individual qualifies for the role level on most aspects and consistently demonstrates almost all required behaviors.

IDP may not be required

35%

Top

These individuals consistently demonstrate all behaviors described for their role level. They also often demonstrate behaviors for the next level. Typically, they are placed at the top-end of the salary range for that role.

IDP is typically not required

50%

Each role and level has an associated salary average that per the team member’s role tier is adjusted by the Average Salary Modifier as a suggested salary as part of the Salary Appraisals | Salary Formulaarchived.
