Engineering Onboarding - Buddy Guidelines

As a peer software engineer, your role is pivotal in our Engineering Onboarding - not only in helping new team members navigate the technical landscape of our projects but also in embedding them into the fabric of our Axelerant’s culture. These guidelines are designed to help you provide the most effective and supportive Engineering Onboarding experience possible. By embracing this role, you contribute to the growth and success of our new engineers and the continuing evolution of our vibrant engineering culture.

Guidelines:

  • Talk about your engineering experience at Axelerant. Understand what their past engineering experience has been and how they found our Engineering expectations and behaviours from our handbook.

  • Discuss about your current project engagement and your day-to-day activities in the engagement. Give them a walkthrough of what the engagement journey looks like. You may choose to also give a brief of your past engagements as well.

  • Check in on their access to the different engineering tools, accounts, and subscriptions, and if they were able to successfully set things up.

  • Assist in setting short-term goals and expectations for the first few weeks and months. Additionally, you could discuss long-term career development opportunities and pathways within Axelerant.

  • Encourage participation in the technical guild and #internal-support Slack channels.
